Natural and Home remedies

I am not a big fan of taking medicines especially for extended duration of times. And since I am from India where buying medicines is very easy and uncomplecation and CHEAP, I dislike the fact that for every little thing you would have to (1)go to the doctor here in the US, (2) If you are lucky to get the appoinment in the near future when it really matters! (3)Pay him the co-pay (4)Wait an hour or so even though you have an appointment (5) Wait for the doctor to see you only to find out (yet again) that he barely talks to you for not more than 5 minutes (6) take the prescription (7)again wait atleast 30-60 minutes for it to be filled

My 3 yr old started having cold more than 2 months ago i.e around the end of Aug. I didn't worry so much. Then she developed cough. I started worrying and it started getting worse even with all the home remedies. I took her to the doc and he gave her Amocxyllin and Syldec. After 2 weeks the medicines were finished but the cough was still persistent. And now it became so worse that every night she would wake up after sleeping 2-3 hours, cough so much that she would throw up whatever she had for dinner. Every night. What kind of a mother won't worry about such a COMMON COLD

So here are my home remedies. Some work for some people and some don't. You just have to try and find which one helps you.

  1. 1/2 a cup of warm water with one teaspoon honey and lemon juice each, before you eat anything in the morning. It works for cold.
  2. Juice up few fresh basil leaves using you palms and add a teaspoon honey to it and drink it. Works wonders for cough. (My mom used to do this to me and my cough would be gone..does not work for my daughter)
  3. For sore throat add a teaspoon of salt in hot water (as hot as you can handle) and gargle first thing in the morning and last thing before you sleep.
  4. The thing that cured my daughter's cough in a single night (I thank my husband's colleague)  Make a dicoction out of some dried eucalyptus leaves and a teaspoon of dried oregano. Drink a cup of this with a teaspoon of honey when it cooled a bit
